Steven was happy to take a group of female investigators onto the first vigil of the night into the cold and extremely dark cellar.   This is an example of what can happen when all your senses are alert and you don't know what to expect.  The noise that startled the team was gas escaping from the pumps in the cellar, nothing too sinister I'm afraid!
